Share the Love

June 15, 2008 By: Danielle Vyas Category: Me|mes 5 Comments →

I am honored to accept the Share the Love Award from the soul behind Sojourner’s Place.

According to SJP:

The “Sharing The Love “Award, was created by Blogger Crystal at “Memoirs Of A Mommy” blog, in honor of donor who saved her one month old’s life a year ago. Cyrstal’s son Noah celebrated his first birthday this week thanks to someone you final gift was the gift of life.

In Crystal’s own words, here are the rules of the Share the Love Award:

“Share this award with all those blogs out there that you love. All the people who make you smile. All those that make you laugh. All those that make your day. All those that leave uplifting comments on your blog.

**All I ask, is that you include a link to this post with the award and ask your recipient to do the same**

As you may have recently seen on my side bar, I have finally created a custom blog award!! I have wanted to do this for a long time but never came up with something that “fit”. I didn’t want just anything. It had
to be something that meant something to me. And what could mean more than Sharing the Love by giving you pieces of my heart??

So I created this award in Honor Of The Donor That Saved Noah’s Life. I share this award with those of you whose love and friendship have enriched my life and made my world a better place.I hope by passing this award around the blogging world we can all help raise awareness of the need for Organ Donation.”

I share the love with…

Purple Zoe creator of the UltraViolet Underground and co-creator of Roots of Humanity who has so graciously become my Muse.

Barbara, creator of Home in France and Our Carroll family genealogy whose is an unconditional source of spirit and love.

Joy, creator of Musings of the Night, who shares her personal journey providing her readers with inspiration.

Wayne, creator of the Electronic Village and co-creator of Roots of Humanity who has been invaluable since the beginning of my blogging back in November ‘06.

Old School Friday Music Meme : Catch Up

May 22, 2008 By: Danielle Vyas Category: Me|mes 10 Comments →

Been a bit absent as of late with many happenings in the Vyas household over the past weeks. So I submit my Old School Friday Music Meme catch up.

The theme for Friday, May 2nd was Singers We Want to be Like. I will take this one on by highlighting attributes that for me make a singer an artist, cuz that’s what I wanna be. Artists stretch our perceptions to include a new view. A vocal artist is blessed with range. Range of thought and range of voice.

Here are a few artists with that range.

Bjork: Human Behavior

Bjork’s range reflects her heritage which lies in Iceland. I can feel that Iceland is a land of extremes, therein lies a silence that is palpable and an internal heat that lies within her core.

Bobby McFerrin: Opportunity

Bobby McFerrin has such a grasp of the breath|voice connection. I have always played with vocal sounds as a child and now with my children. Humans have been blessed with the complexities of vocal possibilities and McFerrin surely shows a command of those possibilities.

Another important attribute that makes a singer an artists is the ability to be a story teller. Stories enrich our lives by attempting to show all sides of the human condition.

Woody Guthrie: Jesus Christ

The theme for Friday, May 9th was Movie Soundtracks.

The movie adaption of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple is perhaps the movie I have rewatched the most. If you haven’t seen it, shame on you. I highly recommend this amazing story.

Maybe God is Trying to Tell You Something

Miss Celie’s Blues | Sister

The theme for Friday, May 16th was Remakes

I give you the wondrous Nina Simone once more.

Here Comes the Sun originally performed by The Beatles

Don’t let me be Misunderstood originally performed by Nina Simone

and was remade by The Animals

This week’s theme is Best Guitar|Bass Solos

I give you Parliament Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain

Old School Friday Music Meme : Songs by Men With Perms

April 25, 2008 By: Danielle Vyas Category: Me|mes 6 Comments →

Okay, Marvelous sent me on a scavenger hunt with this week’s theme “Songs by Men with Perms”. I first had to come to terms with “perm”. Does it mean curly or straightened hair, it couldn’t mean gherri curl, right?

He was the first to come to mind. Then him . But I wasn’t satisfied so I found him . I couldn’t use him . And since my head was getting light from the chemicals, I had to offer the man who represents the anti-perm .

Enjoy:

Mother Popcorn - James Brown

Rocket 88 - Ike Turner

Mother-in-law - Ernie K. Doe

Redemption Song - Bob Marley

Dee, however, reminded me that Bob wasn’t always adorned with dreads.

We are bringing the In Solidarity: Global Day for Darfur to the next level, folks. Every 27th of the month, We will continue our mission to educate, motivate and activate for our Darfurian, Tibetian and global family. Far too often “causes of the day” slip easily from our mind, we cannot allow this to happen. Won’t you join us?

This week’s theme is wedding music which gives me the rare opportunity to plan what my wedding will sound like. My husband and I have been together for 11 years and married for 7 of them. We actually had to get married twice for immigration purposes but no wedding. My wedding will be all about the music and dancing!

Teena Marie : I need your lovin’. Gotta love early Soul Train!

A party isn’t hopping without some Funk! Parliament’s One Nation Under a Groove

Since my hub is Indian there will definitely be a Bollywood dance number. This is Chaiya Chaiya from the movie Dil Se with subtitles. If you have ever seen Spike Lee’s Inside Man, you’ll recognize the song.

Trailer for Inside Man, highly recommended flick by the way.

Last but not least, Jungle Boogie by Kool n the Gang

I can easily extrapolate that there haven’t been many wedding celebrations in Darfur during the last five years.

This week I present a lovely lady with a voice that resonates within the soul. Her voice comes from the very depths of the soul and sometimes what’s down that deep ain’t pretty.

1965 French Jazz Festival “Four Women” [This was my first introduction]
