Old School Friday Music Meme

The theme this week is straight up Old School Hip Hop. This brings me back to my early teens.
Before we get to the videos, On a serious note, I recently learned of the story of Ms. LaVena Johnson from the Electronic Village and was compelled to do something. Please take the time to read this post and sign my petition. I have signed thousands of petitions in my short activist life but this is the first one I have created. In less than a day and a half, over 100 signatures have been gathered. Please add your name and demand Justice for LaVena Johnson and forward to all those in your networks.

    Taking out you suckas and you don’t know how I did it! Did you know he is a photographer, has a blog where he features HOT mixes, and is about to walk down the aisle with Malinda Williames?

    And The Rhythm is surely another song I’ll be rocking to tonight at the Old School party.

    NICE picks.

    Happy OSF!

    @Sharon,
    Yeah, this is an awesome edition of OSF! Me and my best friend were craaazzzy for Kwame’s sleepy eyes and polka dots.

    @Vivrant Thang
    It doesn’t surprise me that he is a photographer. All those creative juices need to spread out in various mediums but didn’t know about the blog and his upcoming wedding. Will look for it.

    Please remember folks to sign the petition for Justice for LaVena Johnson.

    Hey Danielle.

    Yeah, this is cool. I wasn’t up on these guys too much, so this is good for my ongoing hip hop education.

    Happy OSF D-Nice (smile)! I didn’t know the D-Nice song … it is a cool anthem for you. I also like how you integrated the LaVena Johnson campaign into your message. I think that I’ll use LaVena as my Wordless Wednesday offering next week…

    Thank you for visiting my old school hip-hop choices for this week’s OSF theme. I invite your blog readers to check out Gil Scot-Heron and The Last Poets if they have time or inclinaton.

    peace, Villager

    @Keith
    I am soooo jealous of you and your wife enjoying a FREE P-Funk Concert. I would jump at the chance to board the mothership.

    Make my funk a P-Funk. I want to get Funked UP!

    Send a note to Ms. Marvalous so she can keep you updated on our weekly themes.

    Great to have you back posting, Keith.

    @Villager
    Yeah, you like the D-Nice “Stompin’ into the 90s” was all over my notebooks.

    It’s your diligence in spreading the word that I even found out about the campaign.

    We have over 120 signers so far and I just had to use the OSF audience to further the cause.

    You know how we do.

    Much Love as always

    Danielle

    both of these are great posts. i always find it cool when i see these brothas today. for instance kwame was one of the producers on diddy’s ‘making the band 4′ and it was cool seeing him. i remember seeing d-nice not too long, but can’t remember at this time.

    this is true hip-hop!

    great picks!
