The theme this week is make up songs. The song I have chosen worked once in my life. You know there are some songs that speak to you on such a personal level it seems as though it was written just for you just; for the moment you are experiencing. Yeah, that’s why it worked but only once.
UPDATE: We have met our goal for the Care2 Justice for LaVena Johnson petition with 3007 signatures. Arranging a meeting with Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. Please go to Color of Change and sign their petition for LaVena UPDATE
Again, while I have your full attention. Let me draw your attention to the momentous campaign for Justice for LaVena Johnson. If you are unaware of the shameful intolerable coverup of the murder, rape and arson of 19 year old Ms. LaVena Johnson: She was an honor roll high school graduate who volunteered to serve her country in the military was murdered in July of 2005. Despite, diligent evidence collection by her family who were recently on a segment of Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now, the military insists that the case is closed. Part 1 of recent interview with Ms. Johnson. Part 2. Part 3.
Henry Waxman recently submitted a report on the Tillman and Lynch cases of coverup and a demand for a reinvestigation into the case of Ms. Johnson was included. I started a petition targeting both houses of Congress and the President urging reinvestigation after learning that the first of such petitions was closed after gathering 12,000 signatures. I contacted the creator of LaVenaJohnson.com and author of the petition and was inspired to create a new one. In three weeks over 1,900 signatures have been collected. To your right you will see the petition please sign and pass it on to your networks so we can close it down after reaching our target of 3000 signatures.
What About Our Daughters reminds us of the importance of getting on the phone with our representatives to further progress.
With an increase in public interest Color of Change has taken the torch far beyond what good hearted independent amateur activists can accomplish. As an organization they have been fundamental in pursuing the charge of justice and truth with the Jena 6, Darfur and survivors of government neglect in dealing with Hurricane Katrina. Please after enjoying the video sign my petition [right on the sidebar] and scoot on over to Color of Change.
Be an instrument, a guiding light and they will wonder at our might.

Kravits didn’t have many songs (I think I can only remember 2!) but this is one of my favorite songs from the 80-90 decade! happy OSF! Have a great weekend!

Happy OSF! I had not heard this Kravitz song until this morning. Thank you for sharing it with us … and I appreciate your laser-like focus on supporting LaVena Johnson family…
Thank you for visiting my make-up song for this week’s OSF theme. I invite your blog readers to check out Luther VanDross if they have time or inclinaton.
peace, Villager

Kudos to your efforts on bringing light and justice to dark places.
A song that worked is something to remember. I recall this song, but probably didn’t know who sang it. Lenny is so young in this video!

Hey Danielle.
Although there’s always been some criticism of Lenny for being a bit too retro, and perhaps borrowing too much, I’ve always dug the guy quite a bit. The retro thing may have some validity, but I think Lenny definitely adds his own flavor to it, and he’s definitely crafted his own identity. Plus I always liked how close he and his mother were. That was really touching, especially how cool and supportive she was of his desire to be a bit ‘out there’. Not as lot of mothers would go that way, so I always respected her for that.

I love how you work the themes with your blog and your current campaigns. Keep up the good work, we’re listening and learning.
I never played this as make-up song, but it’s fitting. I get lost instrumentals that I forget this song has words other than a chorus.

Thanks for all your hardwork in keeping LaVena Johnson’s story in the spotlight. I listened to her family’s interview on Democracy Now and was stunned by what the military has done to her family.
Great pick for this week’s theme.
